During combat, you can have your wingmen assigned to protect you. They will attack any ships which attack you, leaving you free to concentrate on your desired target. When entering combat, you can have your wingmen attack your desired target while you either concentrate on providing cover, or assist in the attack. If things get too dangerous, you can immediately have your wingmen provide protection for your ship. These are the benefits of wingmen that most people might be aware of. In addition, there are a number of other benefits which can be brought about with a little planning, and occasionally some lateral thought. These include:
- Having a fighter escort, some of which can be concentrated on specific targets from time to time.
- Providing a temporary escort to a ship
- Ordering a simultaneous attack two targets at once with your fighters
- Being able to provide your carrier with an immediate fighter escort on demand
- Sending waves of fighters to fight against a target
This guide will provide you with the means to do this. Not all of these tricks are possible at the same time, and many of the more advanced tactics might need you to change the arrangement of your wingmen. Most will need some setting up in advance, but will give you some pretty good advantages when it comes to execution.
