The average size for a savegame is around 5Mb, and certainly no larger than 6Mb. If yours are bigger then you probably have a problem!
First check that you have updated your game to the latest version.
Another reason that savegames can become excessively large only happens if you have enabled the Script Editor. In this case the savegame growth can occur either if you have a third party script running which has a problem, or if you have enabled script logging in the Script Editor menu and forgotten to turn it off again.
Side effects of large savegames can be long load/save times and even poor performance within the game itself.
