This happens mainly with wireless Microsoft keyboards, and there are three possible causes:
- The batteries in the keyboard are low. The keyboard may be fine in programs where you need little keyboard input, but if the batteries are weak then it may be that some buttons will not work anymore in the game.
- The wireless connection between the keyboard and the base may be interrupted or intermittent. As already mentioned above, it can indicate a low power problem. With your computer idle there may be no problems, but with a game like X2 the loading will be much higher.
- You might need to update your keyboard driver. Numerous people have found that by using the driver from the Microsoft update site they have resolved several problems with unresponsive buttons.
